This is a custom texture of the world map with the icons removed. I disliked knowing were major locations are before I even discovered them so I removed them.

This would be a good alternative if you would like to avoid spoilers or enjoy exploring and discovering locations naturally.

I have tried to be as accurate as possible while editing this map. If roads, tracks, landmarks are slightly off I will to my best to fix them in an update.
