Fallout76 Optimized Textures
Optimizes some of Fallout76’s largest textures, decreasing load times and reclaiming fps.
What is this?
76OT is a simple mod I made in order to try and help my old GPU survive a little longer. Fallout 76 is not a well optimized game and inherits many of the same texture issues that Fallout 4 had. Some normal maps are gigantic ( The rocks near Seneca Rocks are 4096 x 2048 !), some diffuses are just too dense, light maps and reflect maps don’t match, the list goes on. This mod aims to fix all of that by scaling all of these textures back down to sane levels.
How do I install it?
Download the .ba2 file from this page and drop it into your Fallout76\Data folder. (There will be many other .ba2’s in there already.)
Then go to Documents\My Games\Fallout 76 and add the following lines to your Fallout76Custom.ini
If you don’t already have a Fallout76Custom.ini, make one and add that line to it.
Feedback, Tools & Credits
Feedback and criticisms are welcome and I intend to add more to this over time, this mod is far from what I want it to be. At the moment it mostly tackles the low-hanging fruit but i’d like it to be more refined in the future, there is still a lot of performance to be gained for not too much visual cost in places like critter diffuse textures.
I’d like to thank Fallout4’s Texture Optimization Project for the idea and Fallout76’s Ultra HD Textures mod for some clues on how to automate the bulk of this process.
